Ahmedabad, the largest city in India's Gujarat state, is on track to become India's next IT hub. The Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC)  recently launched a $450 million project to develop a new Information Technology (IT) center in Gujarat International Fintech City (Gift City), Gandhinagar.

The project was launched in 2019 at the request of the Gujarat Electronic Software Industry Association (GESIA) but was put on hold last year due to the Covid-19 outbreak. After several rounds of consultation with GESIA and private  IT companies, GIDC has resumed the project.

The new IT hub is designed as a one-story, 28-storey building that integrates IT companies under one roof with a common infrastructure. A coworking space is also planned. Gift City has allocated 600,000 square feet of building space at a price of Rs 850 per square foot.

This development is expected to revitalize Gujarat's IT sector and attract more IT companies to set up branches in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. With its strategic location and ever-growing infrastructure, Ahmedabad is well-positioned to become a significant player in the IT industry in India.

In addition to Gift City's new IT hub, there are several other factors that make Ahmedabad an attractive location for its IT companies. The city has a wealth of qualified personnel. Several top universities and colleges offer courses in computer science and related fields. Ahmedabad's cost of living is also relatively low compared to other major IT hubs in India, making it an attractive location for businesses and employees.

The Gujarat state government is also actively promoting the development of the IT sector in the state. Under the IT policy, IT parks are given various preferential treatment and benefits, and Gift City, which was developed under industrial promotion, was strategically selected.

In summary, Ahmedabad is poised to become India's next IT hub, with major investments and developments underway to support the growth of the IT sector in the region. Strategic location, growing infrastructure, skilled talent pool and supportive government policies put Ahmedabad well-positioned to become a major player in India's IT industry.
